Program Description: Child Advocacy Coordination services for children birth to five and their families. Available services include group and individual in-home parenting sessions, education, technical assistance, and workshops focusing on child abuse/neglect awareness and prevention for childcare providers and the community. Age-appropriate sessions may also be periodically conducted for children birth to five in child care settings.  Additional services include coordination and facilitation of Multi-Disciplinary Team Meetings for referral cases.

Comprehensive Speech, Language and Hearing Program

Program Description: Provides screenings for children birth to five in child care settings and health clinics for potential speech-language, hearing and middle ear problems.  Treatment/therapy is provided for uninsured and under-insured children.  Training and education also provided to childcare and healthcare providers to identify areas of concern as well as encourage a medical home.

Environment Quality Star Tracks

Program Description: Childcare facilities are made aware of the components of quality care to enhance their facility using the Environment Rating Scales.  Assessments of licensed facilities allow for quality enhancement materials.  Technical assistance and maintenance is also provided.

Program Description: Provides breastfeeding support and education to pregnant women and their families.  Emphasis is placed on breastfeeding education and promotions as well as referring women and children to a primary medical home.

Learning Together

Program Description: A collaboration between the Center for Community Action, Family Support Program, the Health Department and the Public Schools of Robeson County provides Fall and Spring Sessions of 11 weekly training workshops at local elementary schools to increase school readiness of children ages 3 – 5 and the parenting skills of their caregivers. Professional early childhood educators at each school site develop the language, arts, math and social skills of children while enhancing their parents’ ability to guide, stimulate, and support the learning skills and interests of their children and their own parenting skills. Families whose children have little or no experience in formal pre-school, long-term childcare, and/or are not educationally and socially prepared for school are recruited and served.

Nurse Family Partnership

Program Description: Highly educated nurses visit eligible women in their homes during their first pregnancy and throughout the first two years of their children’s lives.  The program is a statewide initiative following a national model that seeks to improve pregnancy outcomes and child health through primary prevention.  Additionally, the program seeks to improve the economic self-sufficiency of the family through personal development goals.

Parents as Teachers

Program Description: A proven home visiting model offering parents regularly scheduled personal home visits, group meetings, and developmental screenings for children as well as a network of resources. A home/school/community partnership that begins at birth and extends to age five.

Professional Development Services

Program Description:  Provides services for licensed child care facilities in Robeson County. Services include professional development plans to assist child care providers and center plans to assist child care directors. The Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) and My Teaching Partner will also be utilized. Professional Development Awards (formerly known as Educational Award) will be offered to eligible participants. Training and technical assistance are also available.

Program Description: A resource lending library to provide Robeson County parents, caregivers, child care providers, and community members access to information, materials, and services that will enhance the pre-literacy skills of children ages birth to five years old and help ensure future school success.  Services include educational opportunities, training, educational resources and materials focusing on the five early literacy practices (talking, singing, reading, writing, and play).  Additional services include lamination, bulletin board paper, and die cuts.
